A situation comedy, or it's shortened form sitcom, is a television comedy genre. It's a sort of comedy that involves different characters in the same environment with comedic dialogue and situations. Sitcoms are generally half-hour TV shows either filmed in front of a live studio audience, or with the addition of a laugh track.
The Bob Newhart Show is a sitcom. Other popular TV shows such as The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Cheers, Seinfeld, and Everybody Loves Raymond are also examples of sitcoms.
